Hey guys any help would be great!!! So I have and Fx5 filter and I ran it for about a year no problem. When I moved my tank was in my sisters garage for a few months, one day I showed up and he tank was drained about half way down (which is where the intake for re Fx5 was located). I turned off the filter and ran only my sump. I recently tried to hook up the Fx5 to a tank at my place, and I am still having some issues. I will fill it up and close the lib and lock it down right...I'll turn it in and it will run good for about 20-45 seconds, then it just seems to stop.

Has anybody had this happen? Do I need a new seal? Is there a way to fix it or it is junk?

Thanks again!!!

check the impeller make sure its clean and when you put it back make sure its lined up theres an arrow there.mine done the same before was to do with impeller.

All fx5 turn off after a minute to purge the air out. This happens every 24 hours.
Are you sure it doesn't turn back on?

were is the canister leaking from? you can buy all new seals for it pretty cheap. as you probley already know, the filter funs for 2min, then shuts itself off to purge air. after another 2min, it should turn back on and remain running for 24 hours were it will run the purge cycle again. if it is just locking up, i would check the impeller. if the water level on the previous tank was down to the intake of the filter, it could have ran dry for who knows how long shredding the impeller and possibly the motor. deffinately try the impeller first though. much cheaper. but even if it is the motor, it is still cheaper to change the motor than junk the whole thing. a new motor will run you about $120.

I was not aware of that, when I was checking it this last time I was just unplugging it after it shut off the first time. I'll leave it on longer and see if it kicks back on! Thanks

I have not seen it leaking personally I just assumed it leaked since there was the only thing that could have drained the tank. I did not know it stopped to purge the air and then kicked back on....I will try the above 2 steps before I look into a new motor but you are def right about a new motor being cheaper than junking it. Also, if it is the motor that dried up, would it work I the beginning when I first turn it on?

it will still work, it may be noisy or you might notice a reduction in flow. If it pumps enough water for you then it will work untill you can get a new one. like i said, i would try a new impeller first if you do infact end up having any issues. that will more than likely fix it right up for ya.
