i bought a used fx5 a while back and it has never really worked right from the start. so today i noticed it making a funny sound and only pumping out a little water so i took it apart and fiddled around with it nothing appeared to be wrong, so i filled it back up turned it on and it worked nice for five minutes and then died. so what do you think get a new motor for it? is there anything else it could be? any help would be great thanks

The Fx5 is designed to stop after the initial start after 2-3 minutes. It will then turn back on after 2-3 minutes and turn off every 24 hours for 2-3 minutes.
Questions;
1) What media are you using?
2) Are you using polishing pads?
3) HAve you removed the pump and checked the impeller?
4) HAve you check the impeller bearing? The bearing is only a large round piece of plastic surrounding the impeller.

the media is the stuff that came in it the outer pads as well as some polishing pads nothing else but mechanical filtration
remove the polishing pads and could you take a picture of the bio media your using or find it on the internet?
