Fx5 problem

I didn't know where to put this so I hope this is the right place. But, I have a FX5 I've had it approx 2 years. I had to replace the plug on it because it had a short, but ran fine for about 3 months. I came home around a month ago to it pulsating over and over and over. So I cleaned it out, took off the motor cleaned the impeller, still nothing. Well tonight I decided to mess around with it again and did everything over, took all medi out and it's still doing the same thing. Anyone have any idea what is going on with it or do you think it's just at the end of its life? I bought it used so idk how old it actually is. Any help would be great

Sounds like a lemon and probably why it was put up for sale.I have two FX5 filters that I bought used a few years ago and they have been problem free.

Sounds like the motor may have given up. You can replace them but the cost might be more than buying another 2nd hand FX5

Check the shaft that the impeller slides on to. That can stop the impeller from turning and cause the pulsation.

Thanks guys, I'll check the shaft smitty. I just get sick of taking it apart. And I know the guy personally that sold it to me, now that I think about it he bought it brand new in 2013. He had it running for a total of about 4 months and sold me his tank and everything. I have other filters but would really like to get this one working again

If the pump is humming then that tells me is works.
