fx5 problems

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, I have five FX5's - Same problem I found... I ended up taking all the polishing pads out of them and now only use them packed full of bio material. Because of the design of the FX5 and the lid having like a 100 dame knobs to twist it's a huge pain to have to break into them once a week to clean pads...Not for me.. I polish my water now mostly using and overflow system and socks. Easy to get too fast to change out a sock in comparison to those dopey FX5's and their dame lids...hahahaha ;)

everyones had this problem lol....i was disapointed when i got my first fx5 and stuffed it way too full of media and it plugged in a couple hours. Exellent filter for biomax, pot scrubbies, or k2. Not very good for mech or any kind of pads. I can get away with one blue mech pad in the top tray. You get alot more flow/circulation if theres no mech other than the sponges that come with it inside. When the mech is removed mine can run indefinetly until cleaned. I run bio balls, bio max and scrubbies in all of mine. Sure someone will flame for submerging bio balls, but id rather have the better flow. I run my mech, carbon and socks in additional sumps or h.o.b.'s with the canister.

also if you have sand in your tank, the pump may need cleaned out...there pretty easy to take apart, just a couple screws on the bottom. I thought i had one fail completly until i realised this was the problem. There was so much sand in the impeller it stopped turning completly. I no longer have sand in the tank lol big difference

Exact same setup. Just not on the magnitude of Monster P

Hmmmm...seems very familiar!!!....I posted this very comment on another post. It was part of the whole topic of my post. If you have a big whole in the middle filled with nothing but Bio where is all the water going I wonder along with all the ????. Ok everyone I'll admit I will keep my FX5 it does run awsome... but can't we at least admit those inside trays need a redesign? So to the Poster I must say I agree! I also had to reconnect another filter to cover mechnical.
