i can't seam to find the answer anywhere. so i'm looking to get a fx5 and would like to know how much room is required to disconnect the hoses (how much height is needed) from the the canster?

Id say easy foot...the connectors are only about 5'' tall at the top...but how bad do you wanna smack your knuckles on your stand?

Id say it could be done w/ about 10''.

i always pull my fx5's out from under the tank, then elevate them into a container so i can release the pressure with the bottom valve first... that way when i disconnect the hoses it dosent make any mess on the lid... got to be strong though as they weigh a tonne filled with ceramic and water

I always have trouble of getting water everywhere when I take the hoses off. I turn off the valves but there is always a good bit of water in the space between the valve and the end of the hose.

10" seems about right. Where the hose connects to the canister is about 3 inches add another 4 or 5 for end of the hose, give your self 10 inches to be safe

Ive got 26.5" and ive got loads of room mate, you should be fine.

For the water spilling every where problem turn your intake off and let the filter run for a couple seconds then turn your output and filter off...it should take care of the water spilling everywhere problem.
