FX5 question...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have one on my 180g and there is definetly room in the stand for 2 more. My stand has three doors hence three spaces and the FX-5 fits perfectly into 1 of the three equaly partitioned spaces. So the answer is yes and you should be realy good with just 2.

I have 2 on my 180 and it's not a problem to possibly fit #3. I would do a Wet/Dry but I'm not educated in that department of DIY...yet...:D

But why? If 1 fx5 is efficent then why put 2, why not put 10; it seems like a waste of $$$.

Just because the box sais it can handle a 400 gallon tank, doesn't mean a thing.

An FX5 looses almost half it flow rate once full of media. So thats like 450-500 GPH. So to play it safe, lets devide 450 by 130 (my tank) That gives me a 3.4 turn over rate...............................:irked:

And you need atleast a 7 for turn over rate (depending on what your keeping of course)

All depends on what your keeping. The more/bigger fish you have the more filtration you need. 3 can definitely fit. I had 1 fx5 and 3 eheim 2217's under just half of my 125.

My tanks are usually overstocked, so strong filtration is a must. Also, I work alot, so tank maintenance happens usually only 2 times a month. Rather then risk the health of my fish, I prefer to overfilter.
