ok so i convinced my aunt to get an fx5 for her tank. she mainly has small cichlids like electric blues and what not. i keep up with the water changes and what not for her, and now it was time to clean the filter. inside the filter it has those sponges around the rims of the tray. when i went to clean it this time around the sponges were like a dark pink, they used to be white i think.

what the crap happend? normal? safe?

thanks

Should be fine. What is she feeding? Probably pink from the food....

It should be fine, the first time i cleaned mine they weren't white anymore and haven't been since it's been running...

A lot of commercial flake food has color additive mixed in. Especially that sold for africans. This is no doubt whats causing the problem. It's nothing to worry about in any case.

yeah the food is reddish. ok, just makin sure. i didnt want be responsible for some kinda viral outbreak or something.

not sure what it is.. but that avatar works for me too.

thanks

I feed Cichlid Gold and the pads in my 404 are pink(ish) when I clean them...actually they're about the same color as my oscar's turds :) Coincidence? I think not :)
