I admit I am not sure how long it hasn't been working. Been down with the flu for a week so haven't spent my normal amount of time around my tank.

It isn't making any odd sounds (sounds like normal operation) just isn't working/no flow whatsoever.

I just took it out from under the tank and opened it up and everything looks right but there is no flow.

Any ideas?

The FX5 shuts down every so often to purge air from the system if you unplug and plug back in it should work, they are a great filter.

Aqualoon, I had the same problem with my FX5 a few weeks ago and since I didn't know how long it was not circulating the water, I shut it off and opened it to clean it. It smelled awful!!!!

I had to thoroughly clean the entire filter with a 10% bleach solution and washed the sponges in the washing machine with a 1/4 cup of unscented bleach. Also removed the pump and cleaned it. I didn't find anything clogging the pump and the stock sponges didn't appear plugged up. Rinsed everything with a final Prime/water solution to remove any traces of bleach. Reassembled, primed and running normally.

It's possible the filter was clogged but I never really saw any definite filth or debris as is usual when cleaning canister filters.

Ya polishing pads are only good for a week Max. Never reuse one either. Cleaning them does not work. Make sure you have some flow through any middle media like crisis cross paternal so water can flow around and through media compartments. If you fill the middle media area and can't see the grate in a couple areas you need to rearrange it. If you have more problems message me and I will get back to you right away.
