Swimming in a mountain river
I have a 60gal long turtle and fish tank. I had a Fluval 405 for their old 175 tank. We moved to southern CA and the turtles were moved to a different tank and the 405 broke in the move. So I've been changing water constantly. LOVED my 405 so I want another Fluval. The fx5 looks like the best for us. My questions: is it to much power for even a turtle tank (I have 4 turtles), is it possible to somehow get the outake flow to get under the larger pebbles to push up the yuck? I was thinking a wide, spread out flow under pebbles for a complete yuck cover. Incorporating an air stone & pump would be great for my fish in there too, I have a few big goldfish and will soon have a 5in pleco. Does anyone have another idea, or a helpful link maybe? I would appreciate any advice or ideas! Thanks

I have mine on my 55 gallon fish tank. I know nothing about turtles but I works great on mine

Proportionally, yes.. but I believe that there is no such thing as over filtering your tank.

Sonds like you need a bigger tank. Try changing the pebbles to sand and then hard plumb the FX5 return with pvc to the bottom of the tank to blow the poo into the water column for the filter to grab.

Either switch to sand and plumb like above or supliment your current filter with an undergravel filter to lift the poo and such from the substrate.

Yea that was basically my thinking for the filter idea. But (this maybe a dumb question, but I'm new), why do I need to use sand to use the reverse undergravel? My oldest turtle might eat it, she's "special", but she doesn't eat pebbles. And wouldn't sand clog up the Fluval?

not off the intake is hight enough off the sand bed
