So i bought a used fx5 awhile back and it cant get it to prime, i fill it with water using another pump attached to the inlet then when i turn it on it will run for awhile, then all of a sudden after about 5-8 mins water stops coming out and the filter feels like it's empty of water even tho the inlet tube is filled with water, can anyone guess what's going on? its it because the inlet and outlet of the fx5 are pretty much level with the water source, i currently having it pumping water from and back into my sump and it sits a little higher than the sump. does the fx5 primarly function as a siphon? like the water intlet has to be way above the filter? do i need to replace the motor and or seals? any advice is appreciated.

Yes it GREATLY relys on siphon! That's why it needs to be 36" (cant remeber exact #) under the water line! Its pumping the water out but it cannot properly siphon cuz its not far enough below the water line to compensate for the pressure. Maybe put ur sump on a stand or something?

The fx5 is engineered to work as a closed loop so just run it normally! You'll love it

And fyi it shuts off after a few min to let the air escape and the same every 24 hours after that

werd, thanks dude, i knew it had something to do with siphon, right now i have it piggy backing on my cascade 500 haha.

The filter is setup to run for about 5 min after plugged in then turn off for three then back on again. Just keep it plugged in and it should work fine. I have one sitting at tank level and it still works just has air in it that make it noisy. Just keep it plugged In for 30 min and it will cycle and should be great.
