hey guys....

attached - you will see how my tubes look - a lot of slack on the fx5 stock tubes....

just wondering how strong these guys are? honestly, i am pretty paranoid they are gonna burst at the point where i drew the red circles.....

any input, horror stories, words of confidence?.....

I've had mine setup to seed the filter for my 220g on a 55g and haven't had any problems. I also haven't heard of any problems of this nature involving the Fx5. I wouldn't be too concerned about the hoses. If your really want, you can hard plumb the intake and outtake and then transition to the hoses closer to the canister or use different hoses all together.

Good luck

hopefully thats just a bad drawing and you dont truly have that much slack in your hoses..

if i remember, the book only said 4" or so longer than you actually needed.

Any hose will become brittle over time or can develop weak points and cracks due to constant flexing or the presence of a kink. The thin-walled, corrugated FX5 hose will be more susceptible to loss of integrity than a thick-walled PVC hose. However, I doubt that you will see a catastrophic failure. This is not a high-pressure system. Rather, you will probably spring a small leak or dribble. My sense is that the FX5 hoses should be replaced every 4-5 years.

In the setup CD, it states not to leave a loop in the hose....

I have noticed my hoses to start turning white, where the stress is, as I left loops...LOL..similar to what you have illustrated...

I an currently in the process of changing over all my Fx5 hoses to tubing...

I have heard people who keep Discus, and are on the higher tank temp side, having issues with the hoses.

I've seen what your talking about on my hoses too, made me wonder. I hope it wouldn't ever burst. The thought of all the lawsuits that would most likely happen if they were prone to bursting is what made me feel better. Especially since I think the company says to use only their hoses.

For those changing to tubing: What type are you using? or How are you going about that?
