Can anyone give me their opinions? i will be getting one or the other -still cant decide. I guess what im looking for is which is more reliable and easier to set up and maintain.

you won't find a bigger XP3 lover than me :) but some members on this board have run into some problems with the XP4 - the larger motor has worn down and broken the impeller shaft I believe on Oddball's XP4.

I would not get an XP4.

but I love the XP3.

However, then you are comparing apples to oranges since the FX5 is much much larger than the XP3 (but also much much more expensive too :))

i love my xp4, it is my first can filter but i have had zero probs so far- 4 months. for the price of the fx5 you could get 2-3 xp filters, and its always nice to have more than one filter incase one breaks.

I have seen the fx5 running in a lft and it was doing a very good job and I have had a good look at it and it was only around $350.00 AUST and I will be going to a 6x2x2 when I move into a bigger place and if I go with a canister that will bee the one.

fx5 imo

You have seen the fx5 in Aus?
I haven't seen any in Sydney. Been to a lot of different shops as well. But none of them stock it as far as I can see.

Oh yeah??????
A bigger XP fan than me? LOL
I'll never to to another canister filter. My XP2 on my 29G and my XP3 on my 75G, and another XP3 on my 55G, all run awsome. And maintenance? A BREEZE.

Although, I am tempted to replace the XP3 on the 75G with an XP4, LOL.
