Hello MFK,

i recently setup my brand new fx5 about a month ago and the water flow completely dropped to no water flow at all today. At first i thought it was doing its 2 minute shutdown but it didnt come back on so i unplugged it and plugged it back in and it made noises but didnt have waterflow at all. I drained the water, and cleaned the fine filter pad and the other blue filter pad that i have in my top basket and it seemed to work but the water flow was still very low. So i removed the fine filter pad and the water flow seems normal now. Does this happen often?

Top basket: blue filter pad (removed the fine white filter pad)
middle basket: bio rings
Bottom basket: bio rings

my 125 gallon tank stock is: (4) 3" bala sharks, (4) 2.5" tinfoil barbs, and about (18) 2-5" clown loaches.

my canister filter does the same thing but i got mine off of ebay and planning on getting a better one for this one is trash. its used for my red eared sliders. the water flow stops and goes on after a couple of seconds. i think its because the water is low so when i fill the water all the way up the water flow does not stop at all. not sure why yours does it though. good luck

Its the pads, best thing to do is pull them out,i use a ho for floss/polish pads, they clog up the fx5 way too fast

It's the fine pad that is causing the problem. Take that out and you will be ok.
I don't run a fine pad in any of mine and all the tank's are crystal.
