FX6 Intake sponge pre filter.

I used these when I had Fx6’s running, worked quite well. I don’t why this website doesn’t show links correctly.
I don't use canisters as they are the playthings of Satan, but most of my tanks are equipped with bulkheads with internal threads into which I screw strainers...which are essentially the same thing as the intakes on your filter. If you don't have spare pieces and scraps of Poret or other foam on hand, then any inexpensive foam sold for sponge filters or filter cartridges can be used. Just get an appropriately sized piece, cut a hole down the center and slip it over the filter strainer. Depending upon the size and shape you need, you might very well be able to find extra-small sponge filters which can be used as-is.
You can also cut small sheets of filter material such as Matala or similar into a shape that can be rolled around the strainer and then held in place with a ziptie, a rubber band, or...?
In any case, the pre-filter is easily removed, thoroughly rinsed/cleaned and then replaced. Even better is to modify the filter intake with a female-threaded fitting, and then use the same strainers I have. In this case, the pre-filter sponge is left in place on the strainer, and the entire unit is unscrewed, removed, cleaned and replaced.

For future prosperity, the large ones have to be rigged to work as Fluval’s intake pipe is 1” where as the large sponge is 1.25”. The small and medium will fit snuggly.
Yea I ran a zip tie on the intake tube where the OEM screen would lock on. Sponge stays in place no issues.
Use the Eheim Prefilter 6664 . Fits directly on the FX6 intake line after the strainer is removed. No need for DIY!

For you FX6 guys out there... I cant tell if its micro bubbles or particulate in the water.
I left the fx6 off for 24 hrs and it went away (just the tidal 110 running) turn it back on... Small white htingd all over again... Looks like micro bubbles... is this a common problem ?

Could be the lid not tight enough, pinched o-ring somewhere, intake hose not far enough under water line or could be debris/gunk coming from output hose.
