Hi all.I am upgrading to 120 gallon tank (60"/20"/24").It will be geophagus tank with sand substrate and few plants.Do you think that the fx4 will provide the necessary filtration or I should bet on his big brother? Thanks.

Both would be best.....as good as the flow is from the FX4 the extra bio in the fx6 makes it the easy choice for solo filtration. No doubt.

Either one will work on the 120g. I’d go with the cheaper one or whatever works for you.

In case the smaller one does the job,why to waste more money on item which is also consuming more power.Got my point?

I ran my 150 with 1 fx4 and 1 powerhead for extra flow since it was 7ft in length and Also had some potho growing it was stocked with some big bodies
it ran pretty good I would change water every 2-3 weeks water stayed clear but
I’d say if you have the extra Get the fx6 more gph and turnover rate is always better and it’ll give you an extra basket for more media
I think energy wise it’s maybe a 5 watt difference if any
The fx4 will be ok but more Is always better

The power difference is not significant. The extra bio in the FX6 is the reason I say FX6....I run both on my 180 and an FX6 solo on my 120. Both filters are really good.

Do you think that fx4 can solo the 120g?

With enough water changes and light stock anything is possible. The FX4 moves lots of water. if you occasionally skip water changes or plan on larger fish I would spend the extra $$ on the FX6.

I would say the FX6 as well since your going solo filter. The extra tray will go along way in your case. Plus at least another turn over of your tank per hour.
