Just upgraded to a Fluval FX6 on my 150g and wondering what members would suggest the spares I should be stocking?
Also how long would I expect the motor to last?

I have both an FX5 and FX6, and although I've not unboxed them yet, I would say at most you might want to keep some silicone grease (should be kept available by ALL canister filter users) to lube the seals at each maintenance interval.

Maybe 1 extra set of seals, but I would personally never keep a spare motor(for the price keep a spare "canister filter"), well unless you're using SAND and aren't running a sponge on the intake as a prefilter.

Sand tends to really kill FX5 and 6 due to motor being located at the bottom. I don't like sand anyway (ruined my aquaclear 500's when I tried running with sand 10 years ago, NEVER AGAIN), but thought you might want to know..

Best of luck...

He is correct about everything. The best option is to get an Eheim classic and leave it to your grandchildren in your will. They don't need parts for decades.

I keep a few lid fastners on hand. If you can find them get the older FX5 ones, they are better built than the new fx6 ones. I also keep the click fit o rings that are used at the quick release fittings on hand. Everything else I just replace for safety every two years. I do full gasket replacement as a regular maintenance routine. And like mentioned use the silicone lube on all o rings.

Ive ran my fx5's for years now with no issues now. Very happy with them.
