Which Geophagus do you prefer between Abalios or Altifrons for those who have owned both? Please include why you prefer one over the other. Not really looking for any tank stock advice just a choice one geo or the other. Pretty close to seperating the stock in my tanks and would like to get my order over to Rapps by the first week of Nov.

Choice: "A" get 3 more Abalios to go with the large one I already have.
Choice: "B" ditch my Abalios for a group of 4 Altifrons.

Tank: 225g (72"x24"x30"T)
Mates: x2 Acarichthys Heckelii, x1 Uaru A, 2x Rotkeil, x1 BGK.

Abalios are gorgeous. Not all geographical variants of altifrons are. It kind of depends on what race of altifrons you have avaialble.

I agree, Abalios are beautiful. Abalios has been the plan all along but I have been seeing some really beautiful Altifrons around lately. Have you seen Grey's 180 update in the media lounge? That made me think twice... and now am wondering if there is a reason others are so serious about Altifrons. I've never owned any.

Rapps has the below avalable right now:
Geophagus abalios 2.5-3” 15.00 wild collected in Colombia - super showy earth eater
“ “ 5-5.5” 50.00 one large wild adult with incredible color
“ altifrons ‘Tapajos’ 1.5-2” 10.00 juveniles of truly magnificent, showy ‘Rio Tapajos’ earth eater
“ altifrons ‘Rio Curua’ 4-4.5” 50.00 F1 European bred, very rarely seen gorgeous West Brazil race

I'd say go for the Altifrons most of them look really nice. :D

how big is the one you already have and is it a male or a female?

From nose to tail (NOT including streamers) it's 6". Streamers or threads add about 2". I am sorry Peter but I don't know how to sex them. Still learning...

abalios are pretty, but some of the altifron are just stunning. Im going to have to go with the altifron (especially after seeing the award winning altifron in some forum here). ill try to find it

I don't know either :D I have a lone male (I think!) about the same size or a bit bigger...thinking about getting him a mate or letting him go.

A group of altifrons would be nice, but make sure you know what you are getting tho....some are not so colorful...others are stunning....
