Ok, I've finally decided to get a group of Balzani for a 65 gallon tank but have a slight problem. I was originally going to order them from my source and get 2 larger males and 4 smaller females. Unfortunatly my source has sold out of the larger males which i really wanted so now I have to go with 1 larger male at 4.5 and a smaller male at 3 inches. The females are all 2.5 inches. Should I just get the 1 larger male and 5 females or go with my original plan. The reason I wanted 2 males is because I'm afraid something will go wrong either during shipping or afterwards. Also my LFS has balzani that are much smaller and the store owner doesn't know where they came from and doesn't seem to even know the difference in the species from Uargary or Argentina. The Balzani at my LFS are small and I don't see any yellow indicating they are the yellow breed. Just wondering if most of the Balzani out there these days just come from 1 location?

My understanding is that the only exporter of the "yellow race" is Felipe in Uruguay, and he hasn't exported recently. Several people went on the collection trip themselves (led by Felipe and organized by Ken Davis) and caught a few with in the past year. I purchased the group Ken brought back in March and got them to breed. The fry are close to 3/4" now.

I would suggest one male and ~4 females in a tank that size. If you get two males, the smaller male will probably be harassed to death. These guys are peaceful toward other species, but males really don't get along.

I have this :)

I have 2 males and 1 female and so far they have gotten along quite peacefully. I had another female however she died mysteriously about 3 months after bringing her back from Uruguay. Personally I like having the extra male just to keep the alfa male out strutting his stuff, though mine haven't bred like Peter's have. Either way I bet your tank is going to look gorgeous!

Yeah I'm pretty excited. Decided to get a group from Rapps even though they will cost me way more money than the ones at my LFS but I want a really good stock and my LFS knows nothing about where they came from. Kind of sucks because they are really cute and actually quiet bulky for the size. I just don't want to get them and end up not liking them as they grow out.
