Yesterday morning I noticed my pair (I know they are harem brooders, but out of the four juvies I bought I only got one female) of balzanii acting funny. Upon closer examination, they had laid eggs. By noon she had covered them in a fine layer of sand. Today it appears that she may have picked them up.

I don't hold out a ton of hope for fry on the first spawn, but it would definitely be cool! Anyhow, just wanted to share...

Beautiful! I'm growing out some F1s from Peter right now, though they're only about 1 - 1.5" yet. I didn't like the big humps on the males at first, but the more I see pictures like these, the more they grow on me. I hope mine are as yellow as the ones I'm seeing here.

Care to share your water parameters?

Gorgeous! Congrats, man! I hope I get some activity from mine soon!

Water is at about 68F, I have them in the garage with a heater turned to its lowest setting. The pH is 7.6 with 6 degrees of hardness. Nitrates are low - I haven't tested in a long time, but it is a 75 with just the pair of balzanii, four Corydoras paleatus, and 10 Bloodfin Tetras and I change 8 gallons/day automatically.

very nice!
Thanks!

wonderful, it's spectacular the breeding way of balzaani
Yes, the male is awesome...

Congrats Dan! I am with Ryan, what's your water perams?
Thanks! As I mentioned, the water is slightly hard and basic, but I suspect it is the temperature that has more to do with it.

where did u get the balzani? Where can i find some largish ones

Great shot of those eggs in the sand. Nice job!
Thanks! I'm really glad I noticed, or I wouldn't even know they had spawned (she isn't near as obvious that she is holding eggs as my steindachneri).

I picked them up at The Wet Spot, but they were tiny (an inch or so) and grow fairly slowly at first. I've had them for about a year and a half.
