Hi All,

I've 12 subadult G. brasiliensis in my 55 gal tank and soon i'll sell my surplus fishes and keep 2 pairs maximum. Also, i'll upgrade my tank to a 120g tank. I like salvinis and i know that they are pretty agressive. Can i put a pair of salvini? Will i have serious problems ? Can you suggest any cichlids that can be a good tankmate with G. brasiliensis and is in the same habitat?

Regards,
Emre.

6' or 4' 120? If 4' 2 pairs maybe too much due to their adult size and they can be nasty when paired. If 6' i'd look into crenicichla, bellycrawlers and species from the saxitilis group would be good options.

I wouldn't mix Geo. brasliensis and salvini. Brasiliensis get big but are moderately aggressive...while salvini stay under 7" or so but are really, really nasty when they spawn.

Expect a bunch of dead brasiliensis, eventually.

Matt

Agree with the above answers, and that braziliensus is from southern Brazil, a more sub tropical climate, which means it prefers slightly cooler temps. Some of the more southern living pike cichlids, or other fish from Uruguay and Brazil would work in those temps ( which may temper some of its aggressiveness), and also be quite beautiful.

I have my 4 G. Braseliensis in my 220 with a breeding pair of green Severums, 2 Rotkeil Severums,1 gold Severum,1 red spot Severum, an Oscar, and a Florida Gar. Never had an issue with the geos. Only one of them is above 5" though so as they grow they may need to be moved.
