Hey...guys
My Geophagus tapajos spawned....now all fries are swimming and eating well..but I've noticed that there quantity are decreasing day by day....are parents eating them???
Should I remove babies from parents?? or allow them to care till the babies grown-up 2"
Note-only parents are there with babies no tankmates
It's urgent plz give your opinion

Maybe put a divider to seperate parents from fry and they'll spawn again. If tank is Big enough that is

That sounds totally normal. You're always going to loose some, though that number should decrease as they continue to spawn.

If you intend on raising all the fry that you possibly can, it'd be a good idea to separate them either with a divider or another tank. Though even if you choose to just let nature run its course, you'll still end up with plenty of babies.

Also, make sure you check your filter. The last few items my fish spawned, I ended up with dozens of fry in the bottom of my canister.

Once the fry are free swimming it's easy to scoop them out and transfer them to a 10 gallon. Geo fry eat like crazy and are really easy to raise
I know some people strip them when they are holding them - but I never went that far.
The most I used to do was net the holding female into a separate tank, wait for her to spit, net her out and put her back in the main tank.

But what I found was that when I did that I always ended up with may more fry than I could handle and would half to eventually cull some out... I also noticed that as soon as the female was back in the main tank the males would want to spawn again right away.

So what I eventually did was only remove the females every third or 4th spawn. And if I did remove them I would keep them in the grow out tank for 3 or 4 months and let them fully recover before going back in the main display.

With my altifrons I just scoop out the fry once the male or female spits them out. I don't cull any, just start selling them. I think out of 3 large spawns I had two or three noticeable deformaties that I had to cull

Thank you guy's...by following your well appreciated opinions. I've separate babies from main tank....now my male tapajos is bullying female

She should be ok. How many geos are in the tank? Any hiding places if the females wants a break?

I find the geos don't really hurt anyone, more so just assert some dominance
