My male and female gachua's are both about 7". I seen them do their mating dance, moving in a spiral fashion continuously. However, they have not had their first spawn yet, I believe they're still tweaking things out a bit more to get it just right.

1. What temperature should I set my heater at?

2. Would a 25-30% waterchange help encourage them to breed? I know other species of fish respond to this, jus wondering if channa are the same.

3. My male gachua's chin inflates and stays like that for some time. What does this mean? Practicing to hold fry in it's mouth I'm assuming? Correct me if im wrong.

4. Is it okay to continue turning on my aquarium light everyday? I'm not sure if that totally disturbs them but I also want to keep my plants alive that are in the tank, which are for them to use to induce breeding.

Hi!

ad #1:
In fact you don't even need a heater. The water temperature of my channa gachua tank is approximately at 23°c to 24°C. They had four times a spawn.

Well, some people say, that a waterchange will encourage them to breed others say that it doesn't matter. I couldn't observe any difference.

ad #3:
It could be that he is breeding but is losing the breed for any reason. I could see this also a couple of times on my male gachua.

ad #4:
Don't worry about the light. Turn it on and off like every other day too. Usually the fish should be familiar with the lightning rhythm.

ad #5:
Feed your fish like you always do. A breeding male will hide and refuse food anyway. But the female has to be fed well because she will nourish the spawn in the first couple of days.

Best regards,
Greg.

Be patient he might be holding, I always found that alot plant cover really eases them and makes it much easier for the male to retain.
