Ok, so this is no exaggeration. I am trying to leak test this guys new tank and sump tonight and I went to his tank to get something and almost pooped... what the heck is all over his face?!?!?!?!?

It wasn't there yesterday, and there is no visible or touchable texture to it...simply coloration. (Yes I touched it!) The other side of his face is normal dark purple. If he faces the other way, you can't see it at all.

Background info:

7.5 year old tilapia (hybrid) about 19" long. Lives in a 125 but moving to a 180 in the next 48 hours. Nitrates kept under 20ppm at all times. Last check they were about 15ppm. Nothing new added in over a year. The giant danios in the tank just spawned and I am scooping up wrigglers a few times a day right now.

Not too long ago a guy posted in the flowerhorn/hybrid section of curing ducklips. As far as I know ducklips is almost always fatal. This guy was lucky cause he treated quickly. Search the thread.

OK I am loking and hoping....This fish has HUGE lips. He has always had huge lips. I am trying to find an old pic that has a close up of his head.

THis one is at least 2 years old and has a silly caption on it, but it shows the same side of the head that is now funny colored.

In one of the pictures above I caught him yawning. His lips do not show any protrusions, the only symptom I see is discoloration.

3 new white dots on the fin on that side.

One of those dots shows from both sides of the fin the other two can only be seen on one side.

So just now, I was watching him pester his pleco. He often pesters his pleco. I am a bit speculative of the dots being damage from the pleco.... the dots are in lines. They are on the bottom side, and although I never noticed it before...He only pushes on the pleco with one side of his face, the side that now has dots. The dots are on his pelvic fin, but not his pectoral..... he steers with his pectoral, the pelvic is part of playing "snow-plow the pleco"...his favorite game!

What does anyone think?

FYI they look about half as intense now compared to last night.

When I got home tonight, all the white dots were gone. Just as fast as they appeared, they are gone. He's all better now. Twenty Four Hours... and a water change. That is all I did.
