Got a python yesterday and realized after i was done that I had NO IDEA how much water I took out and then put back in my tank...... How do you guys keep track of this?! Not sure if too much stress coat is bad (added very little freshwater aquarium salt because didn't want to go overboard....) but didn't want to not add enough either...... I have a standard 55 gal and a 47 gal tall that I did the partials on. The smaller tanks are easier to judge. Can anyone give me the mathematical equation to figure out how many gallons of water are in an inch so I can figure this out for next time?! I'd appreciate it. Thanks!!!!

Oh, the python is the only way to go..... Very nice!!! ;)

Divide the height of the tank by the gallons and you should be able to figure out how many gallon per inch (height)

it's cool. I am horrible at English.

Lenght of aquarium (in inches) X width of aquarium (in inches) X inches of water removed, devided by 231 = gallons you removed

Example;

Lets say you removed 6" of water from your 55 gallon...

Formula;

48" x 12" X 6" = 3456 devided by 231 = 14.7 or approx 15 gallons

Okay, another dumb question...... Why 231?! (told you I'm bad at this stuff..... :))

don't even worry about that, that's just the conversion from cubic inches to gallons. just do what the fist person said

if your tank is 18 inches high and you want to do a 10% water change then just drain it 1.8"
for 15% drain 2.7" and so on.

it might be easier to use metric
