I recently bought a 360 gallon acrylic tank 96 x 24 x 36 and am interested in buying a stand and canopy. The only place i see to buy a stand/canopy for this size tank is glasscages.

Has anybody had any problems with glasscages stands holding the weight of such a large tank?

Since the stands are made to hold glass tanks, i assummed the extra 60 gallons of water are made up by the lightness of the acrylic tank.

what are everybodys thoughts?

appreciate it!!

the weight of the tank may not be a problem, but the design of the stand may be.

most stands for glass tanks are designed to hold the tank via the perimeter only, as that is all that is needed with glass tanks. most are 'open top' design.

however, I was under the impression that acrylic tanks should NOT go on an open top stand (because of the bottom acrylic warping under the weight).

however, I belive people have overcome this issue by putting plywood overtop of the open top stand and then the acrylic tank on top of this.

any thoughts?

Ya those were my concerns are well.....I was thinking if i ordered one from there i could modify the stand some by adding the plywood then maybe a few 2x4's for support as well.

What are your thoughts?

it is true that glass tanks only need edge / corner support but most stands ive seen have a full top anyway (wooden stands anyway not sure about metal haven't seen too many of those). As long as the stand has a full top and not just a "frame" than the stand will be fine for the acrylic tank

ever considered DIYing a stand and canopy ? Plenty of threads on here about DIY stands and canopies.

I would just tell them you have an acrylic tank and see what they say about using their stand. If I recall correctly they also sell acrylic tanks.

I was thinking about making one myself....but honestly......I am too lazy...lol.

I emailed them and told them I have a acrylic tank, so we will see what what they say.
