I will be moving soon, I'm trying to figure out the logistics of moving my tanks and fish. I have a galvanized water trough used for livestock, about 100g. Would this be okay for temporarily holding my fish? I'm thinking they would be in it about 2 - 3 days while I move the tanks, reheat them and acclimate the fish to the different water. My concern with the galvanized trough is that there may be something harmful in the galvanizing that could leach into the water. The trough was used for my horses for a few years so maybe anything harmful has already leached out? Any thoughts?

Everything I have read about galvanized tanks says don't use them for fish unless the tank is lined or treated with a fish safe epoxy coat. Galvanized tanks leach zinc (especially in acidic water) which is toxic to fish. Have you considered using a rubbermaid stock tank, rubbermaid or sterlite containers or a kiddie pool as an option?

Thanks for the response. I was thinking of using this tank so I would not have to purchase anything, but I do not want to put my fish at risk. I like the plastic container or kiddie pool idea, I will have to consider those.

large food coolers work well,5 gal buckets for smaller size fish.maybe you could buy a pond liner for the galvanized

If the trough is small enough you could libe it with a shower curtain, if not maybe find a cheap pool liner or waterbed bladder to line it. A new waterbed bladder is about $50 for a king size, might be worth it.
