I've got a problem with plecos dying in my planted sump.
Maybe I should post something in a pleco thread .But when I cleaned out a filter, I found these parasite looking things that seemed to be tiny shrimp.
My LFS told me they were gammas.
They seem very aggressive.
Could these little shrimp things kill a fish?

Those look like scuds..common plant hitchhikers fish love to eat them.

So, no way they could kill a pleco? I lost 3 adults in the last 10 days. But over 200 fry still doing good.
Makes no sense.

I think I'll turn my puffer loose. Pea puffer should do well

Thanks

I dont think there is anyway they could of killed your pelcos....maybe eaten some of them once they were dead.

what size tank are they in?...any other tank mates? have you done a water test?

They're called Gammarus, or scuds as stated above. They're a great food for many species of fish. Plus, they're detritus sifters that will eat any viable unmetabolized material before it can rot and harm your tank. They're non-parasitic but, can harbor parasites if your tank is already infested.
The only way I can think of that they may harm any main tank inhabitants is if the scuds population numbers rise to the point that the tank experiences a drop in DO levels.

The tank is my sump for my 560. It's a 150 with a lot of plants .In there, all I have are bristlenose plecos and now a pea puffer.
Water parameters always good. 3 gal per hour drip. And an ultima 11 4000 on a closed system.

Awhile back I lost a lot of fry , that turned out to be my co2 regulator screwing up.
Since then I've left it off. That's been about 4 months ago.
Now all of a sudden, my adults are dying.
They're long fins. I noticed habit change and fins torn up. 2 days later dead.

Hows the food supply for them?

For the plecos, good. Once a day algae waffers. And once in awhile, I'll throw in some uneaten food from ray tank.
