Noticed a gap of about .5" between the center of tank and stand. Stand is black iron stand. Four corners of tank are touching. Tank isn't filled yet but is this safe or should I get some foam for the bottle?

I would do some styrofoam under the tank

I just was dealing with this exact thing with my 180g. I read for 3 hrs all kinds of responses. The common theme was yes foam acrylic, no-foam glass. I read(don't ask me where) that a guy has been doing steel stands for 30+ yrs and always has gaps. The thing I learned was this: the corners/ends are the most important to support level. Level front to back and level side to side/end to end. The tank doesn't actually require center bracing as long as it is a solid glass bottom, meaning, a bottom pane with the sides front and back panes resting on the bottom glass pane. The trim should be completly covering all exposed edges.
Anyway, this is what I read. Go on a Google hunt and start reading.
I would say, by the way, a .5" gap is a very large gap. Maybe want to investigate a support in the middle with a sag like that.
Good luck.

Thanks for the input, ill most likely sell the stand and just build my own now. Ill add a foam and plywood under the tank for equal weight distribution. The sag from the brace is most likely from lean on it. I had the tank on the bottom self for awhile before I finally moved it up.

i been looking at my tank for past couple weeks and i see a gap in the middle, along with a paper thin gas on the corner of my tank.. made me paranoid so.....

i took out my 120g today off my DIY stand and placed a plywood under it.. along with self stick foam strip on the edges of the plywood.. so the trim of my 120 glass tank is sitting on the soft foam.

any input on this guys?

Ideally, you want a perfectly level stand and a perfectly level tank with something like a polyurethane sheet between them. Use a long (2 feet if possible) bubble level ruler to make sure the stand is level at the top at exactly where you plan to site the tank (floor could have dips and be causing a problem.) You can flip over the empty tank and measure it's bottom as well on any flat surface. If all looks fine, place the sheet / foam squarely on the stand and place the tank squarely on the sheet.

If you use the plywood, then perform the measurement on the plywood while on the stand and the stand seated where it will be on the floor. However, the plywood itself may have warps which the stand doesn't, in which case you may want to skip using the plywood.

Should be fine.

I think a 1/2" thick foam sheet should be fine as long as it covers the entire bottom of the tank and is fully supported by the stand.
