a long nose is a true gar and they can get as long as your pond is wide. id go for shortnose, spotted, of florida

a longnose max size is about 6' in the wild, and will most likely not attain that in captivity, so this species could still work in this size pond...smaller species are still more appropriate though, so going with shortnose or spotted would be more advisable--

Of course you realize that all gars of the genus Lepisosteus and Atractosteus are illegal in CA, correct? Therefore, it's probably unwise to post that you're looking for one, have attained one (and naming the source), or post pics of one while you're a resident of CA.
