Hi, if you could please give a few more details that would be very helpful.

1. How big is the tank?
2. What else is in the tank besides the gar?
3. How big are all the fish?
4. What are your water parameters for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate? Kh GH and pH will also help.
5. How long have you had the tank set up?
6. What décor do you have in the tank?
7. Have you added anything new (fish, plants, wood) to the tank in the last month or two?
8. How often do you change the water, and how much do you change each time?
9. What equipment do you have running on the tank? Filters, lights, etc.

Also if you can post pictures of the gar that would also help people to help you.

I'm not an expert on gars (in fact I know almost nothing about them) but if you can provide the information I've asked for then other members can help you easier. Good luck. :)

I've seen gars do this. A good sign is it's eating. Would suggest to do what Kittiee Katt Kittiee Katt has requested. That'll help.
