gar and aqua history

when did gar become so popular in aquariums i can remember along time ago you never saw them in lfs.

How far back are you going? I've kept lfs-bought gars in Metaframe slate-bottom tanks back in the '60s.

i was not born then lol but i didnt see them in stores till after the 80s

I remember seeing a Florida gar in the fish section in a Walmart over a decade ago; it was mislabeled as an alligator gar of course.

-during the HR orientation at Shedd Aquarium, they showed us a video of the history of the facility, there was a brief clip in black & white (circa late 1930s, early 1940s) with several people looking into a tank of longnose gars. i am going to be getting a copy of the video just so i can freeze-frame and print/frame that photo!!!--
