Generally a no no to keep gars with large cichlids. cichlids could harass and stress the gar out.

I hope this is not true only because of the fact that my gars are a tad bit longer in length than the bass!!!! I just added the gars almost 2 days now and the basses do what they do to any other new fishes that are added to the tank.. I will keep ya posted!!
1x 9" Ntt
1x 8" Tsn
1x 9" orino
2x 12" orino
2x 14" floridas

i dont see why not. as long as the bass is big enough that the gar wont eat it it should be fine. lots of people keep gar with bass.

iloveoscars702, i think their talking about the basses harassing the gars.. not the other way around.

i was answering the op's question about keeping a gar with pbass. and yes the oscar has some hazard towards the gar, but i wouldnt be too worried about the bass harassing the gar.

I see it done a lot, so presumably it works with cichla in a lot of cases, but I wouldn't do it personally.

I have both a Florida Gar and a Peacock Bass together in my tank and they interact perfectly fine. There has been absolutely no issue what so ever keeping them both in the same tank. As a matter of fact, they get along quite well. They actually sometimes swim together around the tank and I have seen the Gar come up to the Pbass and rub up on its sides numerous times without any bad reaction from the Pbass. It almost seems as if the Gar is playing with the Pbass. It's an interesting sight to see :)
