gar + arrowana

im looking to buy a arrowana but im not sure how big he will have to be to fit in with my 15 in spotted gar. i also have a green sevrum in the tank. what size should i get?
 
I would recommend getting a bigger tank first. The size arowana you need to be able to hang with a 15" gar is pretty much too big for a 125g tank.
 
I hope you plan on upgrading your tank for the gar`s sake. As long as you do, getting an arowana at around 10`` will be great.
 
The combo of gar and arowana is not really even a recommend combonation regardless of size. I would post this question within the gar forum and see what the experienced gar keepers have to say.
 
Well things to consider, looks like you in PA. So no asian aro, lets assume your going with a silver aro. Lets start with a 10" that someone suggested. A 10" silver aro will outgrow a 125g tank 4-6 months depending on tank dimensions. Silver arowana are also very skittish and spook very easy. A spooked aro could also casue the gar to be spooked. Gar swimming at high speed into the side of the tank from being spooked is not a good thing.

So will getting an arowana lead to your gar breaking it's back? Probably not, but it has happened. You'll have to decide if it is worth the risk. For the arowana you'll be needing to soon upgrade to a larger tank, don't know if that is within your means or not.
 
have that combo and its fine. Theyve been together for about a year now and they totally ignore eachother. Look it up on youtube. Ive seen lots of gar and aros together. Just keep them both fed and happy.
