That Place With the Stuff
So my brother was throwing around ideas for a bar he wants to start up and he wants to include a huge tank with gator gars I told him there will be issues suprising the gars with so many poeple and worry about breaking their backs but he wants a huge tank like around 2,000 - 5,000 gallons and how many gator gars do you think will be suitable for a tank as well as the sizes of the gars. I assume if he keeps people back a couple feet the gars shouldnt have any issues but you guys are the experts and would like to know your input, thanks.

I did a few guesstimate calculations on how big a 5000 gallon tank would be. If you made it 12 feet long, and the water 5 feet deep, an average (not large) adult alligator gar should be able to swim in it and turn around. Two gar in a tank that size would be crowded. You could probably keep three in a 10,000 tank if all the details were attended to, though. There are some others here who should be able to give you non-theoretical information. Guys?

Cheers,

Don

just go with tropicals. im planning a 12' by 10' by 6' tank. 5400 gallons. it would hold a few gators but there is no need to waste space like that. go with tropicals. look beefy and get only 24". much better to go with

sounds like a cool idea

Sounds to me like TheHze is talking about going for WOW factor, not cute little fish. Spend a few extra bucks, make it a 10k, and let me know when you want the big gar to go in it. :)

One I caught today:

Thanks guys, I will let him know what you guys advise, a 10k tank would be great so I will keep you updated in case if decides to do it, thanks...
