Hey guys I just got home from being out and I noticed that my gar was a little pale. I did give him 1 minnow during the day and I've already trained him for hand feeding so I was wondering if he was pale of digestion? Luckily for him I bought some floating banana plants put them in the tank. Several minutes later he was gaining his color back. Is this behavior odd? Typical? Signs of happiness? Or is it my gar named Garth just doing his gar thing. Any type of behavioral observations will help. Note he is also a Florida gar

The faded coloration could be due to the color of the substrate and/or stress caused by a lack of cover/hiding places. I'm sure that there are other reasons for faded coloration in gars, but I have never heard of them changing colors when they are digesting food.
