gar food for better/faster growth

I've always found live food to be the best for quick growth. Main reason is you can always have food in the tank that the fish will eat as it chooses. Whereas with prepared foods there is the risk of uneaten food causing water quality issues.
Finding a source of clean feeders and enough feeders can be a problem as well. My one tank will polish off 500 rosie reds in a week if I let them. Because of theis I would suggest switching to non live foods once the gar has some size on it, ex. 8"ish for a florida gar.

I have had my Gar for about three weeks and have yet to see him eat anything.
I assume he is eating the few rosy reds I put in every week.

dont live fish have growth inhibitors though?

feeding live will be expensive and a problem too..i know how expensive the feeder are in here..i had a gar who wouldnt eat anything other than feeders for over a month..it was too heavy on the pocket..best is to feed them cut up prawns everyday but dont overfeed...overfeeding can lead to death..

I would say that it would be better to feed one pellets if only goldfish are available for feeding as they have growth inhibitors but if their are fathead minnows or rosy reds then I think either would be just as good. Whatever is more conveniant.
