Gar Friends Again

I'm gonna say NO. Any large, flashy silver fish is a bad combination with a gar. They're likely to spook them into hurting themselves. Gar need calm, non-aggressive tankmates (for the most part).
Plus, once the ATF gets large enough, its likely to try to eat the gar.

I think as long as the threat is only that the Gar would eat the other fish then it's OK to try the combination. A lot of times combos work, in this case if it doesn't then at least you still have the Gar

not quite, my gatf caused a good deal of damage (to a person who obsesses about every minor scrape at a neurotic level) to one of my cubans...

agreed....if both fish are large enough, there isn't likely to be any predation, but you are not going to have happy fishes eitherways. the requirements are just too different. if u had a pond or a really large tank, maybe. but in a standard sized tank, i wouldn't do it again.

no on the hujeta (for the reasons in the above post).
in general, avoid silvery fishes with gars. the ATF would be the same as a large tinfoil barb only it can beat back on the gar. not a good combo; had similar experience with a tarpon/gar combo.--
