My boyfriend and I recently bought a Gar! We used to have a Gar a couple of years ago but it jumped out of our tank. We bought it at a "fancy" fish store labeled "Alligator Gar" for $100. I immediately fell in love and begged my boyfriend if we could go in half for it. My boyfriend ended up talking the guy down to $50 for him. We don't think it's an alligator gar but want a second opinion to find out what kind of Gar it is.

As said, its a Florida gar, and good job talking the price down. $50 is within the average range for these guys, but $100 would have been a ripoff (IMO).

definitely. also note that if the dealer is willing to drop the price by 50% you KNOW the price was inflated grossly...and keep that in mind with future purchases from that place. good luck with your new gar!--

Oh ok thanks guys we were looking at pics and trying to compare and we thought he looked like a florida but we wanted a second opinion we knew he wasn't an alligator gar like they had posted but we wanted him and now we got him :) we love him and are so excited he's doing great too getting along with the other fish and has a healthy appetite he's eating gold fish right now but we would like to get him started on pellets
 
nice!!! i have a flg that looks exactly like that one and i love it. paid only 20 for him :D i got him off live by feeding him less and just presenting krill to him, eventually he ate that and soon took pellets good luck!!
