That's what I thought. So he/she is 3"-4" and I am just introducing it to my tank. I have a pleco and belly crawler pike cichlid in there now. I didnt want them together but I have no choice for now. Is it ok for the time being with those 3? For maybe 2-3 days until I can make a separator (lfs doesn't have divider for 90 gallon). I will eventually buy a new tank for them.
I would put the gar in something smaller, such as a 20 long or 40 breeder, for now as it's a bit small for being in a 90 gallon; it will need at least a 180 gallon when it outgrows the 90 gallon. The tankmates are not the best choices for a gar for multiple reasons, and the pike cichlid will become gar food eventually.
It's partly from the shipment, partly from the light colored substrate, and partly from stress; I imagine that it was packed with a white Styrofoam container, huh? It should darken once it gets used to its new home, but you really don't have to worry about it if it doesn't darken much.
