Gar killing just to kill?

Has anyone ever had their gar kill feeders then just leave them? I've watched mine do this three times today. Strikes, holds, bites again, then just lets go. I know its done this another time today too because there is a minnow still swimming that has obvious gar bite marks on it. So has anyone else ever observed this or is my gar just a serial minnow murder lol.

I've never had any kill a feeder then set it free. I have seen maimings, but they're the result of escaping food. Sometimes feeders will just bugger off when a gar tries to reposition it for optimal swallowing.
