ok true gars will take pellets, paranahs will no prob, hajuta gars seem to be okay with it, feeding feeders is so dangerous. REd tail cudas will.

Here are some i could never train on pellets and i think they would starve themselves

yellow tail cuda
stripped gars
needle nose gars

these are not true gars these are tetras or something but the three have serious issues with pellets. I have never heard nor seen any of 3 take a pellet. Has anyone else? This is why they die so frequent i think. THe yellow tail cuda becomes savage and starts trying to take fish too big to swallow

I've had yellow cudas and striped pike characins (I believe that's what you meant)on pellets.

Never were able to get need nose gar off of live food.

I find them similar to other cudas. Not more fierce and were with reds. They got along pretty well as mine were in groups.

Ive had striped gar characins on food sticks, the bigger problem with them is they freak out very easily, smash into tank walls, and die...

Funny story of mine!
I was given a needlenose gar in a fish trade as an ''extra'' fish because the guy didn't want it anymore!!!! I was reluctant because I thought the fish was rather ugly to be honest but slowly and surely he won me over. The first 2 weeks, he would only eat live foods and quite honestly I was really thinking about bringing the NN gar into the LFS. Then on a Thursday morning as I was feeding cut up shrimp, he ate and ate and ate. He had a full stomach. Then he began eating pellets.
I think the key to this ''gar, cuda'' type tetra species is to give them time to settle in. Don't rush them into eating ''dead'' stuff.. Remember, all these fish are wild caught so it takes them a but to get used to dead stuff, so give them some time.

I've never heard of a needle nose gar being on pellets before.

I've had a yellowtail cuda on pellets before. Tbh it was entirely unexpected, but I was still happy about it lol
