I got back from Ichthyology class today, and I decided that I would try giving my smallest longnose gar some thawed market shrimp. I thought that he would refuse it (I had tried a few weeks ago with no luck), but to my surprise he actually ate the piece of shrimp from my fingers!
I decided to see if he'd take another piece, and he ate the second piece, so I now have a longnose gar that accepts prepared food and can be hand fed!
The best part about this was that no starving was required; there were still feeders swimming around his tank!
