I got back from Ichthyology class today, and I decided that I would try giving my smallest longnose gar some thawed market shrimp. I thought that he would refuse it (I had tried a few weeks ago with no luck), but to my surprise he actually ate the piece of shrimp from my fingers! :D I decided to see if he'd take another piece, and he ate the second piece, so I now have a longnose gar that accepts prepared food and can be hand fed! :headbang2

The best part about this was that no starving was required; there were still feeders swimming around his tank! :grinno:

congrats! seems you have a very agreeable gar!:p

starving is definately not the way to go and shouldn't be part of any conversion process, especially with reGARds to small fish. so congrats that you managed to get it off live food without resorting to it!
