I am wanting to buy any kind of gar but I would prefer a Cuban (Atractosteus tristoechus) ,Spotted gar (Lepisosteus oculatus), or if possible I have been seeing Gold Gars popping up that are very interesting looking (Lepisosteus platyrhincus). I also am interested in Datnoids; I have been waiting a long time to get some but I never can find any in Iowa. I have and Alligator gar already and I am wanting to add to my tank.

Please contact me by post or private post it doesn't matter to me ha.
Thanks,
Andrea

If you don't mind me asking, what's your budget look like? The reason I ask is that Cuban gars are rare in the hobby and fetch over $250 for a small one. True spotted gars are tough to come by, too, but there are a few members on here who might be able to get you one. As for the gold gars, they're extremely rare and will cost you a ton.

Also, if your gar is the one in your avatar, then you have a Florida gar rather than an alligator gar.

No he is an gator gar he is super dark now and very large but I was thinkin it was going to be pretty expensive so I was thinking around 40 to 70 bucks for a datnoid 5'' or so and then I know I can get a spotted gar up my street for 46 bucks and its around 13'' and two arowana for 20 bucks. I am scared to get fish shipped to me because I don't want them to die along the way. So if I could get a cuban gar or gold gar I would spend the money on them if they were quaranteed to be alive on arrival. So maybe 500 is the highest I will go.

So the one in your avatar isn't the gar that you speak of?

Just an FYI, I can almost guarantee that it's a Florida gar if it was originally from an LFS.

You'd be fine for getting a Cuban gar then, but a gold gar will definitely be over that price range.

Send a PM to Solomon (E_americanus) to see if he will have any Cuban gars available in a few months once the second part of his study on them is done. He should also be able to get you a true spotted gar if you wanted one rather than a Florida gar.
