Hey, I wanted to find a tankmate for my snapping turtle once he is about 5". Its going in a 125 gallon tank, I was thinking a gar or arowana which would be on the top of the tank most of the time. Would these work? Or would I have trouble with the aro/gar attacking the snapper or the other way around?

Any info or input would be great. thanks.

Arowana's get to large for 125 gallon tanks.. Have you considered Red Hook Silver Dollars, or Black Bar Silver Dollars...

I always thought silver dollars were more mid-level kind of fish. Those would be away from, not getting eaten by my snapper?

There quick.. I don't know much about snappers but, I don't think it could catch them..

Gar would be a terrible idea since they spend time at all levels in the tank. Would likely get bitten by the turtle. I personally wouldn't rish the aro either.

I wouldn't suggest any fish with your cst. They can and will catch anything in the tank. They are ambush predators in the wild but will hunt in the aquarium. Anything you put in there you would need to see as disposable. My 5" helmeted african side necks have eaten 3 of the original 10-6"sunfish I put in their tank in only a few weeks.

Thank goodness some experts chimed in!

I really never new that snapping turtles are that much of predators!
