Funny as it gets.
My outdoor deck pond that I built (aptly named my Gar-Den) has made my Gars so happy, that they are as friendly now as any fish I have ever seen! The Florida and Longnose now LOVE to be petted/ stroked. Me and my best buddy were drinking some brews and shooting the breeze. When he left, he stopped by my Gar-Den and stroked my Florida and Longnose good-bye.
I pointed out the smaller of the two Bowfin (9" - 10" range) in the Gar-Den to him, so he stuck his finger in the pond in front of the Bowfin so it could smell him, like it was a dog. In less then 1 second, his finger was in the Bowfins mouth to the first knuckle. I darn near pee'd myself laughing when he screamed removing his finger from the pond (and the Bowfins mouth).
I have been lead to believe that Bowfin do not have teeth like the somewhat similar looking snakehead, but darned if it was not able to draw blood from a construction workers finger like it was a bloodworm!
So much for my Gar petting pond thang!
