my spotted finally hit 18" so i decided to put it in the pond. we named him/her/she/it chewbaka. hahaha anyways he's the white one, stressed from the move. the reason for taking all the gars out etc was for measurements WHICH I SOMEHOW FORGOT TO TAKE PICS OF. and of course for some gar fun. now inside is 4 gars sized 18", 15", 12" and 7". also 2, 6" senegals. we wanna add another 6-10 gars. whoooooooo

i totally forgot about one sen man. havent seen more than two at a time for months. dont even remember if i bought two or three from channarox... but as of this afternoon, there are three sens in there. haha. there's a ~5" pacu in there too. :D
two of the gars are currently eating pellets, smallest is on feeders and biggest [chewie] has shown interest in a feeder today but i havent seen him eat yet. sorry the pond looks such a mess. i was using the hose the day before to fill the feeder tank. it's all coiled up nice now. need the damn hyacinth and lettuce to propagate fast so i can add some for the gars. also need to get rid of all those golf balls in there.

nice gars.

nice shots!

and as far as the gars being out of the water, as long as they are at least moderately wet, they will be just fine...they breathe air so they could easily survive for quite some time--

this is true. dont Amia Calva and Polypterids have the same body function.

bit of a different anatomical set up (gars and bowfin are more similar with a single modified gas bladder, bichirs actually have two 'lungs'), but yes, same basic function. arapaima, African bonytongue, African butterfly fish, and of course lungfishes are all air-breathers as well.

a great book on air-breathing fishes to check out is "Air-Breathing Fishes" by Jeffry Graham. it's more science and not hobby, but definitely worth looking at if you're interested in those fishes and the function/anatomy behind air-breathing--

i figured all those had swim bladders. i also study the more scientific parts of anceint fishes. but my favorite is mainly gars.
