I have kept gar for awhile now and love them!! I bought a florida gar at about 14" awhile back and he looked great!!! But in the last couple of years his spots have faded?? One side is more faded then the other but none the less both sides have lost the vivid black spots. He has now gained a greenish gold color on most of his body...only when you look really close tho. just wondering what this would be?? He eats well and the water perrameters are great he has never been through a bad tank since I have owned him. any input would be greatly appreciated!!!
thanks

pics would help. whats ur substrate color? gars patterns do change over time

sand...white...and i think its the sand...but my little 8" gar is colored all over and looks great i will try and get pics on here in a lil bit

white substrate will def lighten the color. give the younger one time. he prob will do the same. darker substrate will darken them and so will some darker plants

you stated that he was 14 inches when you bought him "Awhile back." a 14-inch gar might be a year old. i'm just guessing and i'm not sure how long you have had him. i just think he's aging and part of the aging process in fish, is pattern change. humans age and our skin changes texture, complexion, tone and some. I would not worry about it.
