Recently got a Florida Gar (5~6 inches) about 3 weeks ago. A couple of weeks ago however, I was cleaning the tank, and took the Gar out of the tank into a bucket filled with water (slightly warmer, about a degrees or two) and it suddenly turned upside down and started twitching wildly for about a minute. It then went upright, and started swimming around wildly almost jumping out of the bucket, before eventually calming down.
A couple of days after that, I was walking past the tank, and the Gar got scared (as he always does if you walk past the tank), and I noticed again he had a seizure, similar to the one prior to this. It just starts sinking to the bottom twitching weirdly, followed by a sudden burst of energy.
And finally, today, the same thing happened when I put a cricket into the water, it turned startled, and starting twitching.
Is it because of the temperature of the water (mine is at 23-24°C), or shock? Or is the tank too small (mine is 29 gallons)?
He does fine normally, eating well (goldfish and guppies).
Any ideas?

Thanks

It sounds to me like it may have a spinal injury that is randomly flaring up. I would hope it just stops someday and never comes back, because there's not much you can do aside from euthanize the fish if it continues or gets worse.

Possibly, but my friend also has a Florida Gar (similar size to mine) which he bought form the same stall, and it also has similar reactions when startled/shocked.

Sometimes my gars will twitch their head a couple of times and it never looks good because you can tell their neck or something is bothering them, but it usually happens like every couple months, not frequently and they never sink or turn over.

Perhaps Solomon & others can chime in on some other possibilities.

It is probably time to consider euthanasia. :(

Nobody has any other input for this fellow?

Maybe. See how it goes.

I think three seizures a day should be a good enough indicator, unless they have stopped?
