I don't think this is true. Infact, there are very little difference between floridas and spotted gars. for all I know, those fish farms could be cross breeding them. Even the gar experts may have a hard time telling the two apart from just a few pictures. However, I believe it's been established that spotted gars have shorter pointier snouts in comparison.
