hey, there.
Lately my Florida Gar has been spitting out the fish i feed him on a regular basis.
Usually he'll eat 3 fish every other day, now he comes to get them but mostly regurgitates the fish after he chewed and swallowed the food.
He does not spill all the food, and will still eat some. Yesterday i fed him 3 and he spat out 2. Strangely enough he keeps coming back for new food...
Has anybody seen this behaviour at all?
Is he just not hungry and toying with the food or could there be a different explanation.
There's no change in behaviour or maintenance to the tank.
Only thing that comes to mind is that the feeders are fresh.I recently bought a new bag.
Any ideas?

There might be a blockage, hence he is hungry but cant actually eat. I would stop feeding him for a few days in hopes that it passes....

i've had this issue when some pesticide got into the tank, i would first check my water parameters, if anything's off, then just increase the water changes & monitor the situation. if not, i'd also go with increased waterchanges & also try to find a source of water poisoning. good luck with this, & keep us updated esp with regards to the water param check.

a combo of what was stated above...check the water parameters and make sure nothing is off (make sure you aren't feeding right before a water change either), also let the gar fast for a few days and it may likely work itself out on its own. keep us posted, but for now just check water and skip feeding for a bit--

ok, that makes sense.
Uhm, but i allready fed him today .
He spat out the first fish but ate 2 smaller ones after that, which he swallowed whole.
The not feeding before waterchange is something i hadn't considered, and did do in the past.
I'll keep you posted on any changes, thanx.

My gar still will regurgitate some food, but is nice looking and thick.
Not swollen, but healthy looking,i may be wanting him to eat too much.
If i skip a day, he'll eat more.
Maybe trying some new food may help...
some fillet or prawn, he usually loves those.
Maybe he's just spoiled too much...
